My Latest Obsession
Or should it be "obsessions" in the plural as I can never stop at just having only one?
Yes, macarons are my current "it" food. The ones below are from Ladurée which I wrote of in a previous blog entry. The shop at Burlington Arcade doesn't have the full range and I would have loved to have tried the gold-leaf covered chocolate macaron.
The pictures (amateur) of the macarons below are from another patisserie, the no less respectable Lenôtre, but these are from the shop in Bangkok where I recently had some meetings at.
The ones on the right are double the size of the ones on the left and leave me quite satisfied after eating two. Lenôtre's selection in Bangkok is even more limited than Ladurée's selection in London and limited to the flavours seen in the picture on the left which are (from left to right) coffee, pistachio, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Not very inspiring but better than nothing at all.
Apart from the range of flavours, there's not much too choose between Ladurée and Lenôtre in terms of quality although Ladurée's fillings are better but then again, they cost quite a lot more so it's really a matter of getting what you pay for.
Fauchon no doubt does macarons as well but the last time I was in Paris, I was too obsessed with marron glacés that I didn't look carefully enough but I'm quite sure that a reputable French patisserie such as Fauchon would most certainly have macarons for sale.
There are some local patisseries here which make macarons but those will feature in a separate blog entry.
